- AUDREY DELMA BANKS -
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Audrey Delma Banks on November 2, 2024, at
the age of 82. Audrey was born on in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 5, 1942, to the late
Ralph Banks and Lucy Broaddus Banks.
Audrey and her siblings, Ralph and Patricia, were raised in Philadelphia where she graduated
from West Philadelphia High School before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education
from Cheyney University in January 1967. She also earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work
from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work in May 1975.
Audrey worked as a licensed Social Worker for the state of Pennsylvania. As a dedicated
employee, she was recognized many times during her more than 37-year career by the Office of
Medical Assistance Programs, the Philadelphia County Assistance Office, and the Department of
Public Welfare for her faithful and invaluable service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In
2004, she retired from the Commonwealth with leadership excellence commendations.
Audrey was an active member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she taught vacation Bible
school. She loved to help and nurture children. Audrey was a member of Community Program
Developers, Incorporated, a group of African American professionals who used their knowledge
and expertise to assist various community groups obtain essential community services. She also
was a member in the Tuesday Girls social organization.
Audrey was known for her kind, loving, caring manner and humorous personality. She had
elegant style, impeccable taste in apparel, a love of books, and was enthusiastic about travel. She
was generous and received everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile.
Audrey had immense passion, empathy, and loyalty for her family, friends, and community. She
was a beautiful person inside and out.
Audrey was predeceased by her younger sister, Patricia E. Banks. She leaves to cherish her
memory her brother, Ralph G. Banks (Carolyn); niece, Stacie Banks-Smalls (Sidney); nephew,
Ralph G. Banks, Jr.; great-niece, Taelyn Jade Banks, and a host of adored extended family
members, close friends, and colleagues.
Her wit, sense of humor, and infectious laugh would light up a room. She cared deeply for the
people around her and made an impact on many lives. Audrey was dearly loved and will forever
be in our hearts.
