Life Story Bernice Florence Ambrose was born in Philadelphia on December 10 th , 1924, the daughter of Ethel and Albert Brown. She grew up in West Philadelphia, graduated from Overbrook High School and was a longtime member of Saint Thomas Episcopal Church of Philadelphia where she served on the Usher board and was a member of the Sister hood Guild. She was married to Henry G. Ambrose on November 21st 1952, who she met at church and they were avid Pinocle players. He predeceased her in 1981.
Bernice had a long work history as a seamstress working at Cherry and Sons making children 's clothing. She made many friends over the years and retired in the 1980’s. She wore beautiful clothes and loved shopping at Macy’s and Lord and Taylor.
She was one of Martha Glenn's childhood friends and shared every holiday with the Glenn family. Our family was her family and she spent many Thanksgivings and Christmas dinners with us until her death.
Over the years the tradition carried on and Miss Bernice was truly recognized as part of Glenn/Hamilton family. She went to family cookouts at Norma’s in DE, Thanksgiving and Christmas at Beverly’s and was always sure to bring her favorite bottle of wine. Miss Bernice loved to play PoKeno also and would always have her bag of coins ready to go. She never wanted to miss an opportunity to play cards.
Miss Bernice was a resident of Simpson Gardens in Lansdowne, PA and most recently resided at Simpson House in Philadelphia where she made many friends. She was called home on February 21st , 2021 and she lived a long and prosperous 96 years. She will be missed by her family and friends.
