The Obituary
BERNICE VIRGINIA CARTER was born on April 30, 1930 to the late Mary Allen and Moses Copeland in Aiken, South Carolina. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 6:30 a.m., after a brief illness. Bernice received her early formal and Christian education in Aiken, South Carolina. In 1945 at the age of 15 she migrated to Philadelphia, continuing her formal education in the Philadelphia Public School System, attending Sulzberger Junior High School and later graduating from Overbrook High School in June, 1949.
After high school graduation, she began her professional career in the field of women’s clothing retail management. She continued in this profession until her retirement in 1992.
Bernice was an avid pinochle player and enjoyed her frequent trips to the casino with her son and daughter. She also enjoyed watching old movies that were shown on Turner Classic Movies with her son.
During her middle age into her senior citizen years, she enjoyed her holiday cooking, especially Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her son: Thomas E. Carter, Jr.; her daughter: Wilberta M Carter; her four grandchildren: David, Nicholas, John, and Melissa; her aunt: Elouise A. Moore; cousins, and friends.
