The Obituary
Brian William Dorsey born July 3, 1945, in Norristown, PA to the late Susan Ellen & Rodell Dorsey, Sr. , was raised in West Philadelphia by Susan Ellen and his step-father Howard Slaughter. Brian was educated at SAINT Ignatius Elementary school at 43rd Street and Haverford Avenue. Then he attended Saint Thomas More High School for Boys’ at 47th Street & Wyalusing.
After graduating high school, Brian attended Delaware State College on Football and Basketball scholarships, earning his Bachelor’s of Art in Business Administration. In the fall of 1964, while at Delaware State College, Brian was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Beta Sigma Chapter. After graduation, Brian was drafted by the Cleveland Browns but was unable to fulfill his football dream, as he was drafted into the US Army to fight in the Vietnam War. Biran was honorably discharged on October 15, 1971.
On February 20, 1978 Brian married Veronica Curtis and was first introduced to fatherhood as the “Bonus” father to Marnie Curtis. Brian then met Kathleen McKinley and this union produced Naa-Fofoi Dorsey. Brian and Kathleen would eventually marry on October 29, 1983. Later he met and married Alexis Willis who preceded him in death.
Brian worked as a psychotherapist for Thomas Jefferson hospital. He also worked as an Educator for the Camden County School District, a Community Center Director for the Ardmore Recreation Center also known as “The Shack,” coached youth football and basketball, and UPS. Brian also enjoyed playing chess, reading books (James Patterson was his favorite), all genres of music, Gumuko, Backgammon, and Pinochle.
Brian leaves to rejoice in his legacy: one daughter, Naa-Fafoi (Mark Wharton), one “Bonus” daughter Marnie Dorsey-Curtis, 3 grandchildren Shayma, Dylan, and Maasai, 2 brothers Rodell Dorsey Jr. (Margie) who preceded him in death and Gregory Slaughter (Joan), a host of nieces, nephews, Fraternity Brothers, and a tremendous number of friends who were like a family.
