Obituary for Calvin E. Cress
Calvin Cress, affectionately known as "Coot", was born on September 18, 1948 in Concord, North Carolina. His parents preceded him in death, Clarence and Maggie Starks. Our Lord Jesus Christ in his infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle and friend on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Glendale Uptown Nursing Home in Philadelphia, PA.Calvin received his education at Logan School in Cabarrus County. Coot was known for his jokes and had a long memory, he could tell stories of long ago, and whenever we needed to know about our grandparents or parents, Coot had the answers. Even after Coot was very sick and the doctors said his mind would go...it was not so, he would remember something that happened last week that we thought he may have forgotten. coot loved to dance and cut a rug and shoot pool.Coot gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Zion Apostolic Temple, 518 South 60th Street, Philadelphia, PA until he became ill.He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Joyce; 3 children, Calvin(Kimberly) of Gardner, Gail and Charles of Raleigh, NC; 2 sisters, Vanessa(William) and Marcy; 7 brothers, Clarence, Melvin(Starlene), Gregory, Thomas, Anthony, Kenneth(Wildella) and David(Elizabeth); granddaughter, Camryn; grandson, Alton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
