Life Story
Carolyn Beatrice Story ONeal-Swint, of Bear, Delaware, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the age of 77. Carolyn was born in Suffolk, Virginia on July 9, 1945 to Elder Clarence & Patti Story. She was raised in a Christian home where she was the fourth of seven children. Even as a child, she had a very calm and peaceful mannerism and was known to be a peacemaker. During her childhood years, the family relocated to West Philadelphia where she received her formal education in the Philadelphia Public School system. She attended Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary School, Shoemaker Junior High School and Overbrook High School.
She was joined in matrimony on December 25, 1964 to Raymond T. O’Neal and from this union four children were born, Patricia Lynne, Raechel Charlette, Raymond Tyrone and Reginald Eric. After the death of her sister, she raised her nieces as her children, Melanie Wroten and Jasmine Wroten. After the death of her children’s father, she found love once again and married Trustee Richard D. Swint in holy matrimony on October,14 1995.
Carolyn worked as an administrative assistant for more than twenty years. She retired from the State working for Children Youth and Families and ended her career at The American Friends Service Committee. It was without hesitation, she took an early retirement from AFSC to care for her ill parents full-time until each transitioned to be with God.
Carolyn’s parents emanated the love of Christ towards her from a very young age. She reverenced God by honoring him through the giving of her time, resources and love. It was a blessing to know her. Throughout her lifetime and as a testament to her generosity, she opened her heart and home to those seeking refuge, support and compassion. She did not have much, but what she had, she gave freely. Her warmth and sweet spirit nurtured and embraced you with every interaction, throughout her personal life and career.
Carolyn was a member of the National Temple Church of the Living God under the pastoral care of Bishop A. H. White, Sr where in her formative years, she learned to serve, share her gifts and be a helper. In later years, Sister Carol became a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church of the Living God under the leadership of the late Bishop Lillian Ward. Over time, she transitioned her membership to Old Jerusalem Church of the Living God and dedicated many years of diligent service in the culinary ministry, choir, mother’s board, trustee and pastor's aid ministries. Her love for children motivated her to direct the church summer camp program and operate a home-based child care for family members, neighbors and close friends.
Carol was a kind and gentle woman who loved her children, grandchildren and family with all of her heart. She will best be remembered as “MeMom” and “Aunt Curl”. All who knew her, loved her. One of her all time sayings was: “I am everybody’s MeMom because MeMom loves everybody.”
She leaves to celebrate her life, her husband. Trustee Richard Swint; children, Patricia Greene (Darryl), Raechel Coats (Elder John), Raymond O’Neal (Sidoney), Reginald O’Neal (Rochelle), Melanie Wroten, Jasmine Wroten; Siblings, Clarence Story (Tina), Ann Jewett (Willie), Charles Story (Jackie) and Pastor Barbara Jones; grandchildren, Brandon Greene, Stephanie Coats, Xavier O’Neal, Zachary O’Neal, Kiana Coats, Imani Coats, Zaria O’Neal & Jalen O’Neal; great-grandchildren, Blake Charity,, Zhuri O’Neal Simpson , Kayson Kiah-El, step-grandchildren, Sharbral Jones, Clarissa Drummond, (Tyson) Jamere Reid-Locke, Jalicia Reid-Locke, Jaleel Clarke, Venicia McKenzie, step-great grandchildren, Layla Drummond, London Drummond, Lena Drummond and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, godchildren and friends.
