The Obituary
CLIFTON CARL JULY(E) was born on June 15, 1939 to Alfred July, Sr., and Bertha Washington July. He was the third of ten children born to that union. Clifton or Cliff as he was affectionately known was educated in the public school system of Mobile, Alabama. Upon his high school graduation, he attended college for a year before entering the Army with his older brother, Alfred. In 1963, he migrated north to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeking more diverse employment opportunities. Clifton came to Philadelphia with a strong faith in the Lord coupled with a profound and dogged work ethic.
He met Helen Ruffin while working for his uncle at Julye Beverage Company. Love blossomed and on July 30, 1996 they were united in marriage. In 1969, the family was completed with the birth of their daughter Stacey Lynn Julye.
Cliff went above and beyond to provide for his family. He consistently worked two jobs for many years at Young’s Supply Air Conditioning and Heating Company and the Philadelphia Post Office. Prior to working at Young’s, he attended the Philadelphia Heating and Air Conditioning School. He also furthered his studies while working at the Post Office and retired in 2004 after 39 years of service, in a management position.
Clifton was faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 35 years. He truly loved the Lord and God’s people. He was an usher, trustee, and a member of the Senior Ministries. Cliff was also involved in service to his neighbors as the treasurer of the Jefferson Street Block Club, where he resided for over 46 years. Cliff was preceded by his parents and siblings, Gloria, Alfred, Jr., Reginald and Winfred; and two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn and Brenda.
Clifton departed this earthly life on October 22, 2021. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and faithful wife, Helen; his daughter, Stacey; a son-in-law, Angelo, Sr.; three loving grandchildren, Angelo, Jr., Aja and Antoine; two sisters, Sheila (Charles) Woods and Jacqueline Mixon; three brothers, Lonnie, Howard and Douglas; two sisters-in-law, Ossie and Lolis; and many nieces and nephews. Many friends and neighbors will also mourn his passing as he touched many lives. Lovingly submitted, The Family.
