Obituary for Donald E. Anthony
Donald E. Anthony was born to James and Minerva Anthony on November 11, 1948. A resident of Philadelphia, he was educated in the city's public school system. An ardent student, he proceeded with his education, earning a bachelor's degree from Lincoln University. He worked for the Hospital at University of Pennsylvania following graduation. In 1968, he joined the United States Army where his first assignment was at Fort Bliss, Texas. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Following his tour of duty, he married Marianina Porter in 1973. Together, they were the proud parents of two girls, Meryna and Kim who had an affinity for the laughter he brought in thehome. Known as a 'colorful character,' Donald was blessed with many grandchildren -- Briana Anthony, Sophie and Gabriella Kidd, Marlon, Tiffany and Jonathan Majette, all whom grew to love him dearly and couldn't get enough of his outrageous humor and fun-filled shenanigans.
Donald Anthony military experience afforded him the opportunity to work in the U.S. Federal Government until 1987. His first assignment through 1971 was with the Department of Agriculture. His most significant work in government, perhaps, was when he transferred to the Department of Defense and served as a Quality Assurance Specialist. As a member of the Philadelphia logistics team, he was responsible for the purchase of food, clothing, textiles and medical supplies for the United States military.
When he took the time to relax, he took fishing trips and savored listening to jazz. Enjoying rhythm & blues as well, his favorite band was Earth, Wind & Fire. His grandchildren claim they know the words to every EWF tune he cherished. During his lifetime, he joined the Masonic Order and attended lodge meetings at Prince Hall.Â
Donald is survived by his wife, daughters, several grands, a son-in-law, Vigus Kidd, a sister-in-law, Rosetta Anthony, JoAnn Taylor, Robyn Majette, and a host of nieces and nephews who will never forget him.
He leaves cherished memories to a loving host of family members and friends.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 9:00 AM at Sharon Baptist Church - 3955 Conshohocken Avenue. The funeral service will start at 10:00 AM. Final resting place to conclude at Rolling Green Memorial Park in West Chester, PA.
