Obituary for Eleanor Carroll
Eleanor Taylor Carroll was born April 30, 1918, to the late Harry and Alberta Miller in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the oldest of 4 siblings, Alberta, Richard and Lucille, all preceding her in death. She died peacefully on Saturday, April 7, 2012 with her family lovingly by her side.
Eleanor received her formal education in the Philadelphia school system, graduating from William Penn High School for Girls. In the years following, she met and married James Hubert Carroll. Eleanor remained a homemaker until her husband became ill. She was gainfully employed by the City of Philadelphia until her retirement many years later.
In the early 1980's, she became a Jehovah's Witness and was an active member until a decline in her health.
Eleanor enjoyed cooking, gardening and completing crossword puzzles, the more challenging the better. However, what she most loved was spending time with her family. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family; so many called her mom!
Eleanor was a devoted wife for many years, a caring and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and gret-great grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy that has reached 5 generations.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Wilma (who predeceased her in death), Richard (Joyce), Elaine (William), Patricia, Nancy, James, Sylvia, Allen (Fran), Linda, Alicia, Deborah and Mark (Marlene); many beloved grand and great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a host of friends whom she loved dearly.
A viewing has been scheduled for Friday, April 13, 2012 10:00 AM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 2901 Glenwood Avenue. A funeral service will start at 11:00 AM. Final resting place to conclude at Westminster Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, PA.
