Obituary for Georgette B. Fields
Life Story
Gwendolyn F. Johnson-Forte, affectionately known as Gwen, was born September 8, 1947 in Winston Salem, North Carolina.  She was the youngest of three children born to the late John L. Johnson and Onella Wheeler Johnson.  She was educated in the Winston Salem public school system and earned her certification in Early Childhood Education.
Gwen moved to Philadelphia in the early 70’s and worked at Dewey’s for 15 years where she met her lifelong friend Ann.  Later, Gwen worked at The School District of Philadelphia as an Early Childhood Teacher Assistant where she retired in 2011 after twenty five years of service. Also, she served on the Union Board for Philadelphia School Board for numerous of years.
Gwen accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Holy Ghost Jesus House of Prayer. She was a faithful member until her health failed. However, even in her sickness, she pressed her way whenever she could.
Gwen met and married Patrick Lawrence Forte in 2001. She had one beautiful and devoted daughter (Faaidha) Yvette Robinson.
Gwen was an outstanding cook and was known for her Southern cuisine such as chitterlings, pig feet, greens and her mother’s homemade rolls. Gwen loved to entertain and hosted many holiday celebrations. Gwen always spoke her mind.
Gwen adored her daughter as they spent countless hours talking and decorating her home. Gwen’s love for her only two granddaughters Tiffany and Turquoise was un-paralleled they will miss saying” Nana.”  She was instrumental for them becoming the lovely women they are today.
God saw that Gwen had fulfilled her purpose on this earth. On September 7, 2015 he called her home as she took her last vacation to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina with her loving husband one day before her 68th birthday.

She leaves to cherish her memories; her loving and dedicated husband, Patrick; one daughter, (Faaidha) Yvette Robinson; one stepson, Ryan Forte; two granddaughters, Tiffany N’cole Robinson and Turquoise Abdullah (Abdu); four great-grandsons, Jayden, Nasir, Jiair and Nyeem;  one brother, John L.
