Rev. Herbert L. Strand was born March 17, 1945 to the late George and Nettie Strand. Rev. Strand was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system. Graduating from Overbrook High School, he enlisted in the US Army on February 21, 1963 and was honorably discharged February 21, 1969. He departed this life Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in the comfort of his own home.
Rev. Strand graduated from the Bethlehem School of the Bible, Eastern School of Christian Ministry of the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His failing health prevented him from graduating from Palmer Theological Seminary this past May. He was an ordained minister of the Gospel and a member of Vine Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James S. Allen, Sr. A true son and servant of God, he served many as minister, teacher, mentor, evangelist and male chorus member.
Rev. Herbert Strand's presence will definately be missed by his only child, Deena Denise Strand; granddaughter D'aysia and great grandsons, Amajh and Amaurie Gowan.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at Vine Memorial Baptist Church located at 5600 West Girard Avenue. Viewing begins at 9AM and service to follow at 11AM. Entombment to conclude at Fernwood Cemetery.
