LIFE STORY Jewell Marie Ray Obituary
Jewell Marie Ray was born, July 19, 1932 to Fessor B. Glaze and Beatrice Glaze in Philadelphia, PA She attended Philadelphia public schools and excelled in academics. Jewell attended Vine Memorial Baptist Church and gave her life to Christ at a young age. She was married to the Late Elder Noel Gandy, Jr. And from that union were born six children, Denise, Yvette Yvonne, Vivian, Tyrone and Damon. Jewell was remarried to Eric Ray, Sr. and to that union was born Eric Ray, Jr. Jewell was a loving mother and devoted wife; she dedicated her life to raising her children and never worked outside of her home. She especially loved cooking wonderful meals and baking delicious desserts to the delight of her family Jewell was also a great grandmother, loving all twenty-four of her grandchildren! Jewell enjoyed her music both gospel and secular. Our mother loved music; Motown, Disco, Oldies or Jazz. Mom could be found dancing around the house to the music. One of her favorite choirs at Vine was the Chancel Choir. Her daughters Yvette and Yvonne sang and toured with The Chancel Choir. When they traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina, she was there to meet them. Some of her favorite songs were: God is; God Said It; I Believe in God and Going up Yonder. She enjoyed Sunday sermons preached by Emeritus Pastor James S. Allen, Sr. She would apply them to life lessons and admonish her children by them. One of her favorite sayings were, “I give all thank to the good Lord!” Jewell Marie Ray was “The Proverbs 31 Woman of Noble Character!”
