The Obituary
KEITH AMENDEZ BUTTS was born August 29, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late George and Marian Butts.
He received his formal education in the Philadelphia public school system. He graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1972. After graduation, Keith joined the United States Marine Corps. He served his country as a jet aircraft mechanic. He also worked at Andrews Air Force Base helping to maintain the jets that protected Air Force One. Until his illness, Keith worked for the City of Philadelphia Sanitation Department and the Philadelphia Police Department as a mechanic.
Keith loved music and was an accomplished guitarist. During his career, he played guitar with many popular bands and groups. He was well known for his speed and skill when he played. You could always find Keith practicing his craft whenever he could. Keith was also an avid distance runner and he competed in many full and half marathons. He also was an avid cyclist and an accomplished singer. He loved singing with the White Rock Baptist Church male chorus, The Masters of Song. Right up until his peacefully passing in his sleep on June 2, 2021 at The Inglis House, Keith was always ready to break into song. Keith accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at White Rock Baptist Church. The faith he found at White Rock would ultimately sustain him throughout his life.
Keith or Gap as he was known to those close to him, loved to laugh and loved the laughter of others. Even after he was stricken with Multiple Sclerosis, it was hard to find him without a smile on his face. If ever you asked him how he was doing, he would look up from his wheel chair, look you in the eye, and say with a smile, “I’m doing great!” He would inevitably follow that up with a sincere “How you doin”. Keith never let the pain of what he lost get in the way of the joy of what he had.
Keith leaves to cherish precious memories: his brothers, George (Cathy) of Conway, South Carolina and Ivan (Laurie) of Clinton, Maryland; his devoted sister and caregiver, Pamela of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; his loyal soul-mate, Theresa Ginyard; nephews, Antonio Vick, Corey Williams, Dante Butts, Gabriel Butts(deceased), Gary Butts, Gregory Butts and Rodney Humes; nieces, Christina Butts, Sheena Williams and Tamika Washington; god-mother, Trula Reese; and a host of loving uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, the caring staff of The Inglis House and his White Rock Baptist Church Family.
