The Obituary
Lemuel was educated through the Philadelphia public school system. He graduated from Overbrook High Schoo , Philadelphia PA Class of 1954.
Lemuel accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a young boy at, St. Thomas Church Philadelphia PA. Throughout Lemuel’s life he served in many capacities and ministries. As a teen he served as an Acolyte. He joined Christ Episcopal Church, Dover Delaware, where he served on the Transportation Ministry transporting congregates to and from Church for Sunday Morning service and special events.
Lemuel loved to tinker and developed an interest in auto mechanics at the age of 10. He would go to the local neighborhood garage and watch and learn from the local mechanics. His love for mechanics grew as he entered high school. Lemuel entered the Unite States Airforce to perfect his skill and it turned into a rewarding career.
Lemuel was united in Holy Matrimony to Shirley Hamilton for 47 years before she went home to be with the Lord; to this union 3 children were born Pam, Lenny, and Paula. Lemuel was a father who was strong on structure, guidance, and finances. He was not one for chit chat but when he spoke, he had much to say and to glean from.
Lemuel joined United States Air Force: at the age of 18. January 1954. Retired from the United States Air Force – January 26, 1996, with an Honorable Discharge on January 26, 1996. Lemuel proudly served his country for 47 years combined Active Duty, Air Reserve and Civil Service positions. During his career with the United States Air Force, he served as Aircraft Maintenance Unit Chief 1660th Tactical Airlift Wing Maintenance Manager – 913th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron – Willow Grove Air Reserve Facility, PA Senior Master Sergeant – In charge of Flight Line Maintenance, 913th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Willow Grove Air Reserve Facility, PA He fought in many battles including the Dessert Shield/Storm December 21, 1990 – June 7, 1991.
Lemuel leaves to cherish his memory – daughter Pam Coleman- Vereen and son-in-law Henry Vereen of Allentown, Pennsylvania: son Lemuel J. Coleman Jr and daughter Paula Coleman of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: special family friend Terrance Darren Johnson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: sisters Joan Whitaker of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Patricia Garret-Strickland of Atlanta, Georgia: sister-in-law Arlene Walls of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; friend Constance Pinson of Atlanta, Georgia and a host of nephews , nieces, and friends.
In addition to his wife Lemuel was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Coleman Jr and Carl C. Coleman, Sr., sisters Gwen Page and Marion T. Kirton.
