Prayerfully Yours, The Family  Life Story  In the late 1950’s, her mother, brother and his children (James, Lorenza, Mable and Rubye) settled in Philadelphia. This particular migration from the South had the most profound impact on her life because Aunt Mable not only partnered with her brother in raising his family, but also cared for the needs of her mother while maintaining her own home. For several years, she held fast to a routine of ensuring her mother took her medications and had breakfast in the morning; working during the day; coming home to cook a full course dinner for her husband and youngest niece Rubye, whom they raised together.  Under the leadership of Reverend Philip M. King, Uncle Tom and Aunt Mable joined Sharon Baptist Church. He became a Deacon and she served as a Deaconess, also contributing her voice to the Gospel Choir on their travels and performances. After Uncle Tom’s transition in 1991, Aunt Mable joined Zion Hill Baptist Church and later the Greater Faith Baptist Church under the Reverend Larry L. Marcus, where she served faithfully until her health kept her from attending.  Aunt Mable took pleasure in a lively schedule as a retiree.  She continued to care for her family and maintained a vigorous spiritual and church life. She expanded her home garden and sometimes accompanied her husband on landscaping jobs. She was a regular at her gym and would attribute her workout routine to the relatively exceptional health she enjoyed in her later years.  Aunt Mable taught us about love and faith in God, caring for and loving family, compassion for others and independence. She influenced a multitude of lives, including nieces, (Carolyn, Connie, Sharon, Jamila, Jelani, Mia, Paulette, Crystal, Meesa, Meah) nephews, (Aseem Sr., Aseem Jr., Jakim, Amos) and beloved cousins.  In our family, it is said that if you know one of us, you know Aunt Mable. And if you know Aunt Mable, you love Aunt Mable. She welcomed our friends and our children’s friends, so they experienced our love for her too.  Her special relationships extended to godson, Anthony Davis and family; Ralph Lett and family; Joseph Blake and family; Tony Bryson; Jayden Jenkins; Lorraine Rivera and Rhonda Robinson among others. She gained another mutual loved one in Gerri Evans, who has been her caretaker since 2014.
