Life StoryÂ
MARION LOUISE GARRISON  At the age of 94, Marion L. Garrison died Sunday, October 11, 2015 in Bakersfield, California. She was born in Durham, NC to the late John L. and Kittyola Curtis. She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Robert L. Garrison, Jr. and 11 siblings.  Garrison is survived by seven children, one sister, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, a dozen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many other relatives. A woman who loved to travel the world, Garrison accepted Christ as a child and joined St. Mark AME Zion Church in Durham, NC. After marrying and moving to Philadelphia she joined Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church in 1955 and 14 years ago moved to Bakersfield, CA where she joined Cain AME Church. Educated in the Durham, NC educational system, she graduated from Hillside High School and attended North Carolina College for Negros (renamed North Carolina Central University). Garrison was a homemaker who loved her family and together they managed three corner stores in West Philly. She worked for the Our Mother of Sorrows Church after-school program and volunteered in the Camphor church kitchen along with her dear friend, the late Marie Boswell. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 23, 2015 at Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church, 5620 Wyalusing Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19131. Friends may call at 10:00 am. The service will follow at 11:00 am. All cards, condolences and flowers should be sent to Camphor Memorial United, 5620 Wyaulsing Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19131
