Obituary for Mary H. Rosser
Very quietly and peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2012, the Almighty God in his infinite wisdom, called His servant Mary H. Rosser to eternal rest.
Mary Harris Rosser, was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 28, 1931. She was 1 of twin girls born to the late John Adams and Hattie V. Robertson. Her sister, Pauline and brother, James Robertson, Sr. (Sonny Boy) preceded her in death.
She received her education in the Philadelphia public schools; Allison Elementary, Gillespie Junior High and graduated from Dobbins Technical School in 1949. Her field of study was Fashion Design and she was a talented artist.
Mary, a lover of clothes and fashion, used her passion for style as a sales associate for Roaman's and Lane Bryant clothing stores for women. She was a dedicated worker and retired in 1991.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized on May 19, 1946 by Pastor Charles Jones at Holy Trinity Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA. Mary was married to Richard Harris on August 27, 1955. Richard Harris passed away on January 30, 1960. She met and married James E. Rosser on July 8, 1984.
Mary joined Alleyne Memorial AME Zion under the pastorate of Rev. Rhea S. Lomax. She was a faithful and devoted member of the Hospitality Club for many years. Mary enjoyed life, travel and loved meeting new people. She always had a beautiful smile and a familiar greeting, "Hi Baby"! She had a hearty laugh and loved to spend time with friends and family. When her health began to decline and she was not able to get out as much, Mary continued as a faithful friend and called numerous friends and family on a regular basis to offer a word of comfort and encouragement.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, James; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herman and Geneva Rosser of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Margie Carter of Philadelphia, PA; 3 nephews, James Robertson, II (Joanne) of Jacksonville, FL, Darrell Robertson (Lenore) of Odessa, FL, Rev. Melvin Carter of Los Angeles, CA; 9 great-nieces and nephews, James, III, Allen James, Dujon, Stephanie, Shakirah, Seshmi, Nadiyah, Tarajee and Tanieka; an aunt, Muriel Adams of Boston, MA; cousins Arlene Duncan-Brown (Hubert) of Aldan, PA' Juanita Glenn of Philadelphia, PA, Lynn Robertson of Baltimore, MD and her sons Juan and Maurice Robertson of Wilmington, DE, Denise Robertson, Mark Robertson and Hazel Portlock of Wilmington, DE, Brenda Smith of Newbury Port, MA, Belinda and Michael Robertson of New Castle, DE; 4 step-daughters Brenda Robinson of Newark, DE, Florence Baylor of New York, NY, Rev. Liat Richardson-Owens (Thomas) and Brittany McRae; 2 step-sons James and Louis Robinson (Ernestine); best friend, Alberta Williams; devoted friend Mrs. Willie Boston; the Alleyne Memorial AME Zion Church family and a host of relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 9am at Alleyne Memorial AME Zion Church - 1249 North 55th Street. Funeral service will follow at 10am. Interment to conclude at Rolling Green Memorial Park in West Chester, PA.
