Obituary for Mary Louise Williams
We Lovingly Remember
Mary Louise Williams, 76
Born July 2, 1935 in Monticello, Florida to the late Mary Jo Fletcher and the late James Young and she departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 12, 2011.
She attended Howard Academy Elementary School. After graduating from there, Mary moved to Philadelphia with her mother in 1948. She then joined Jones Tabernacle AME Church where she was a Jr. Dram. Mary attended Vaux Jr. High School where she met and later married the late Rainey Williams. Mary graduated from Vaux in 1950. From there she attended Kensington High School and graduated in 1953. She attended one year at Penn State University where she studied Medicine. But due to financial restraints Mary was forced to leave Penn State and was employed by the Veterans Administration for 3 years.Â
In November 1957, Mary and Rainey were united in holy matrimony. From this union a daughter was born, Stacey.
In November 1960, Mary was employed by the Philadelphia Naval Base where she was an Accountant Supervisor for 38 years until she retired in 1998.
In November 1962, Mary became a member of St. Matthew AME Church where she was a lay member and stewardess.Â
Mary loved to travel going on many cruises and especially driving home to Florida with her family every summer for 10 years. Mary was an avid horticulturist and sports fanatic. The Philllies and the Eagles were Mary's favorite teams. She always lent a listening ear and gave advice for whoever needed it. If you needed a ride anywhere Mary was there, she would give you the shirt off her back in you needed it.
We will miss Mary's infectious smile and beautiful personality!
Mary leaves the following to treasure precious memories: daughter, Stacey; grandchildren, Lynn, Jonathan and James. Also remembering Mary are her special children, Yvette, Sequoia and Zaniah; sister Frances; sister-in-law Willa; brother Rodney and a host of other family and friends.
A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, 9:00 AM at St. Matthew's AME Church located at 57th & Summer Streets in Philadelphia. The funeral service will start at 11:00AM.
Final resting place will be at Fernwood Cemetery in Fernwood, PA.
