Life Story
MELVIN W. BUTLER, JR. was born on November 28, 1936 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born to Emma Butler and Melvin Butler, Sr. As a young boy, Melvin and his family came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and made it his home. He was one of seven sibling, three of whom preceded him in death, Harry, Lagrante and Billy.
Growing up in Philadelphia, he was educated in the public school system. Work began early in life for Melvin. Amongst his many places of employment he spend most of his work career working as a merchant seaman. He also was a parking attendant for Hahnemann Hospital. He was a kind hearted giving person, who gave from his heart. In his spare time, Melvin enjoyed watching television. You could often find him watching a cowboy movie or his wresting.
He married Carol Price, to this union, five children were born, four girls and one boy. This union was later dissolved. In 1974, he was united in marriage to Hyatha Didin. Although, no children were born from this union, he helped to raise Hyatha’s three boys in addition to his own. On Friday, February 19, 2021, Melvin passed away and he will be surely missed.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Butler.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Hyatha; his children, Andrea, Angela, Donna and Richard; stepchildren, Pedro, Muhammad and Orlando; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Bobby, Cheryl and Deborah; many nieces and nephew, other relatives and friends.
