Life Story
Meva Moore Justice, project manager and education advocate, dies at 64
Meva Moore Justice, a Project Manager and Youth Mentor, died on Wednesday, July 20 2022, in Philadelphia after a brief illness. She was 64.
She was born on April 2, 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Henry L. Moore and and Mary Ion (Ewell) Moore, their second daughter 5 years after an older sister, Nadene Moore. Meva was the baby of the third generation raised together as family in a Nicetown rowhouse owned by their grandparents when they migrated from Virginia.
She was educated in the Philadelphia School System and graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1976. She earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980. Justice was an active member of the Society of Women's Engineering (SWE) and a member of the newly established Black Engineering Council (BEC). She continued her education by learning Business Administration at Drexel University and taking Master of Science courses in Organizational Dynamics the University of Pennsylvania. As a Technical Marketing Group Manager with Verizon Communications in a 35 year career, Justice held positions of increasing responsibilities in the engineering, regulatory, network planning, management and development of new products and features to the public particularly for the beginning marketing inception of FIOS. She was inducted into the Verizon Telecom Leaders Circle for management employees.
Justice endorsed Education with nonstop enthusiasm and energy. After retiring in 2015, she founded the "MOORE JUSTICE for YOUTH" organization in Philadelphia, where she continued her mentorship and dedication. She served on numerous boards including Discovery Charter School and community organizations as an educator and advocate of the importance of STEAM oriented careers. She volunteered at John Barry Elementary for their Early Literacy Project. As an active member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Incorporated - Pennsylvania Chapter Justice was an Education Committee Co-Chair. As a devout member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Philadelphia since 1986, Meva immersed herself in the Women's Ministry and Youth Advocacy Commission, She was the Assistant Director of Children's Worship, Primary Department Superintendent for the Church School and a Teacher within the Vacation Bible School. She continued her love of singing in both the Women's Choir and Chorus for Soulful Christmas at the Kimmel Center for many years.
Meva enjoyed traveling the globe with her loving companion, her husband of forty-one years, Kenneth Justice. They visited everywhere in South Africa for 10 days in February 2020 just before the pandemic. Throughout the years, they loved going across the country by auto or airplane on family trips with their sons. In addition as a couple. Justice accompanied her husband to Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. and National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. events.
Aside from her husband she is survived by her sister Nadene Moore; sons, Keith Justice (Toccara Hilliard Justice) and Mark Justice (Stephanie Mazariegos); grandson, Sol Justice; and expected granddaughter Rose along with other family members and many friends.
Services will be held August 1st at Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Philadelphia Viewing will be at 9 a.m. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Wood Funeral Home Inc. handled the arrangements.
