A Time To Be Born
Norris Benjamin Cannady was born May 5, 1933 to the loving parents of Woodrow and Mable Hunt Cannady who preceded him in death, as well as his two siblings, Mrs. Hazel Cannady MusKelly and Mrs. Marie Cannady Pass.
A Time To Plant
Norris attended the public school systems of Cleveland County and graduated from Cleveland High School in Shelby, North Carolina. In 1951, Norris moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and began working at Barnes Bakery while he worked part-time at Loretta’s Flower Shop as a driver. Soon, Norris took interest in the art of floral design. After working several years at Loretta’s, he became part owner of Loretta’s Flwoer Shop. For sixty-eight years, Norris operated the flower shop until March 2019. In his spare time, Norris was an avid golfer. For many years, he played golf at Cobb Creek with the late Clarence Wood.
A Time to Love
In 1946 while in junior high, Norris met Marie A. Gatson. From their union was born four sons, Reginald, Stephen, Norris and Darrell. For over seventy years, Norris and Marie built their lives and raised their children and grandchildren on North Robinson Street.
A Time To Die
Norris B. Cannady peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday, November 6, 2021.Norris was preceded in death by his son, Stephen.
A Time To Weep
Those he left to cherish his memory are: his wife and devoted friend for over seventy years, Marie G. Cannady; three sons, Reginald, Norris (Gail) and Darrell; special daughter, Barbara Moore; special niece, Dionne Sturdivantl sister-in-law, Mitzi (Vick) Sturdivant; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
