The Obituary
Othelia Jackson was born on April 24, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the second of five children born to William Amos and Marie (Nichols) Jackson. Othelia was reared in a Christian home with her siblings: Dolores, Leon, Elsie and Florence.
At an early age, Othelia attended Zion AME Church in South Philadelphia, with her family, until she and her siblings joined Calvary A.M.E. church. She attended church school and became a member of the choir. Othelia was a faithful church attendee throughout her life. She joined Gates of Heaven Pentecostal church where she was actively involved in church ministries; Missionary, Golden Circle; and was treasurer for the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. She never missed an assignment in performance of her duties.
Othelia received her formal education in the Philadelphia Public School System. She also completed other studies and training in Christian education at New Life Bible Inistute.
Othelia was employed at various jobs prior to her position at Roxborough Hospital where she worked in Housekeeping Department for twenty-five years. After her retirement her focus was on caring for children and church activities. Othelia became a member of GRANDMOMS Kids at Temple University. This was a grandparent adoption program for children. She received several awards for devoted care she gave to many children.
Othelia while having a loving and caring disposition, was very strong willed. She was not cautious in her travels and would not hesitate to travel alone; going and doing whatever she decided to do, in spite of family concerns she did it her way.
Othelia opened her home to many over the years which resulted in her having several extended families. She looked forward to attending the annual convocation held in New Jersey. Othelia loved God, Her church, and her church fanliy. She was a devoted sister, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by her sister’s Dolores Mosley, Elsie Galloway and her brother Leon Jackson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her sister Florence Jackson; Nephews, David Mosley and Mark Galloway; Neices, Marlynne Galloway and Pamela Mosley; Great Nephews and Great Nieces; Great Grand Nephew and Nieces; A special adopted family; Shanika Ross and her children, Jasmine and DaQuan and grandchildren Her Church family and a host of other relatives and friends.
Have the florist deliver your selection to the funeral home no later than 8:30 a.m. the day of the service.
