Life Story
Pearl Elizabeth (Curry) Spivey was born on August 10, 1933 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to
the late Hattie and Thomas Curry. Pearl peacefully departed this life on March 15, 2021 at the
Centennial Village Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She
was preceded in death by her siblings: Charlotte Austin and Butch Curry, who was a guitarist for Lee Andrews and The Hearts.
Pearl was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from Bartram High School in 1951. She worked for many years as a sales clerk at Bonwit Teller. Pearl took pride in the fact that she would calculate everything in her head without the assistance of a cash register. At the age of 20, she met Alfred Edward Spivey, Sr. and in 1955 they were united in holy matrimony. She was a devoted mother to her two children born from this union.
Pearl spent her free time painting her long fingernails, enjoying company, and playing Pokeno
and Bingo. She was very competitive and passed that trait on to her son and grandchildren.
Although she was small in stature, Pearl was a giant in the hearts of many.
Pearl leaves her son, Al; her daughter, Charlene; and grandchildren, Morgan, Marcus, Stephen, Mecca and Persia to cherish sweet memories of her. She also leaves a host of caregivers at Centennial who treated her like royalty and were a second family to her.
