LIFE STORY
Glamorous, generous, beloved words that epitomize the woman who was Sarah Frances Nolan. Sarah Frances Jones was born on February 16, 1924, to the late Samuel and Carrie Jones, in Philadelphia, PA. Pat, as she was affectionately known, attended W.S. Pierce Elementary School, Audenreid Junior High School, Bartram High School and Apex Beauty Academy. In 1941, Pat married the late George Johnson and from that union Norma and Darlene were born. Several years later, Pat went on to meet and marry the love of her life, Robert A Nolan, together they had Robert and Patricia. Pat was a Christ-centered woman who gave her life to the Lord at a very early age. She instilled her strong Christian values in her family. She desired that her family’s journey would be a spiritual one; so, they maintained membership at the Greater Mount Olive AME church, under the direction of Rev. Mackie. Her faith walk continued as she later joined Consolation Baptist Church - lead by Bishop Alden A Gaines. Pat was a master seamstress whose professional career began at the Keystone Clothing Company. She also worked, for the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot. Her career, as a seamstress, culminated at the United Exposition Service Company. Additionally, at the age of 70, she proudly served as the receptionist of her granddaughter’s hair salon - Hair 4 U. Pat was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. Further, she shared close relationships with her siblings, other family members, and friends. People loved being in her company because of her pleasant demeanor and easy going disposition. Men, women, and children alike stood in awe of her striking beauty. Her exquisiteness was accented by her stylish fashion sense. Her beauty, however, did not stop at her skin’s surface. She was committed to being a supportive loving matriarch whose strength grounded her family during life’s triumphs and challenges. Though, her well-appointed home was one that could have easily been showcased in a home décor magazine, with a warm heart, she welcomed all into it. The culinary delights, that she created and served there, were the center of the many holiday affairs and family celebrations that she hosted. She passed her apron and recipes of “soul-food” – with a gourmet flair- to her youngest daughter, Patty. Those left to cherish her rich legacy are: her 2 sisters – Gwen Smith and Barbara Jones; 4 children - Norma Johnson, Darlene Johnson, Robert Nolan, and Patricia Nolan; 1 daughter-in- law – Mignon Nolan; 4 grandchildren – Zina Johnson, Darryl Johnson, Elana “Loni” Nolan, and Robert Nolan; 2 great grandchildren - Tariq Upshur and Mekhi Upshur; one great-great grandchild, Autumn Upshur; and a multitude of family and friends. She will join her dear husband - Robert Nolan and her siblings - Earl Jones, Alfred Jones, Eddie Jones, Samuel Jones, Leroy Jones, Harold Jones, Charles Jones, and Carrie Fitzgerald in heaven.
