Obituary for William T. Valentine, Jr.

William T. Valentine, Jr. entered into this world October 27, 1953 the son of William T., Sr. and Florine Valentine, who preceded him in death in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  On Monday, January 30, 2012 God called his faithful servant to join Him in the Kingdom of Heaven.William was introduced to the Lord at an early age by his parents.  He was baptized and confirmed at the African Episcopal Church of Saint Thomas.  He was a dedicated member for 50 years.  He served diligently as an acolyte, youth instructor, music committee, basketball coach, Sunday school teacher and also a Lay Eucharistic Minister and a Lay Reader.William received his education in the Philadelphia Public School System.  He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Drexel University and a Master's Degree in Education from Cheyney University.A highlight of his work experience includes, 16 years at the Defense Support System and 5 years as a teacher in the Philadelphia Public School System.  He was also employed at the Department of Human Services as a Social Worker for 9 years at the time of his demise.Bill will be remembered as a humanitarian.  He was blessed with a passion for helping others.  He was a dedicated life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha, Pho chapter's fraternity for 30 years.  Bill was also an active member of the Concerned Black Men, The Frontiers, Big Brother/Big Sister Organization and the Free of Life Ministry.  He was an official referee for football, softball and basketball in the following organizations: UBBO, Tri State, ABC and PIAA Associations.  He also taught and played tennis.  He would take time out of his activities to get to the gym to workout and play racquetball.He loved watching sports with his Aunt Kitty, especially the Super Bowl.  He knew she would fix him a huge meal because, you see, he loved to eat...a lot!!!Bill will be remembered as a quiet non-complaining soul.  He always saw the best in everyone and voluntarily lent a helping had without expecting anything in return.We will miss his carefree spirit and attitude.  He leaves fond memories for his family and friends to cherish and remember.Although no longer with us, his spirit is alive in the hearts of his loving Aunt Catherine(Ms. Kitty), his beloved and special friend Norma for 20 years.  He was raised with cousins (too many to name) as their brother; god-children, Isaac George, Zuleka and Samaria Mesquita and Lynette Dickerson; god-father Emory Thomas and all his extended family members who adopted and loved him dearly and a host of co-workers and friends.

There will be a viewing Wednesday, February 8th from 3 to 4:30 PM at Wood Funeral Home, Inc.  A 2nd viewing will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 10:00 AM at The African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas located at 6361 Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia, PA.  A requiem mass will follow at 11:00 AM.  Final resting place to conclude at Fernwood Cemetery.
