"On January 28, 2026, God sent an angel to call home our beloved Yvonne (Muzzy) Shervington, daughter of the late John Sr. and Elizabeth Shervington. A cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Yvonne leaves behind a legacy defined by service, love, and unwavering devotion to others.

Yvonne’s journey to giving back and placing others before herself began with her dedication of 22 years of honorable service to the United States Army, proudly serving her country in Washington DC, New Jersey, Kansas, South Korea, Okinawa, and England. Her military career reflected her discipline, resilience, and deep sense of duty

After retiring from the Army, Yvonne answered another call to service: education. For the next 22 years, she served the School District of Philadelphia as a Middle School Teacher at Tilden Middle School, taking on one of the most demanding and meaningful roles as a Special Education Teacher. She believed fiercely in advocating for children who needed it most and worked tirelessly to ensure her students were seen, supported, and empowered. Even when eligible for retirement, Yvonne chose to work additional years, motivated by her love for her students, colleagues, and community.

In retirement, she continued to fully devote herself to serving others with a passion; She was an active member of Philadelphia Chums, Incorporated, the National Council of Negro Women, and Continental Societies Inc of Philadelphia. Most recently, she proudly pledged and crossed Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, through the Kappa Omega Zeta Chapter. With all of these organizations, Yvonne poured her energy into planning social and philanthropic events, finding joy in sisterhood, service, and uplifting her community.

Yvonne was a fierce believer in family and friendship. She treasured togetherness, made space for joy and to love others, and believed deeply in creating memories to be cherished. Hosting gatherings was one of her greatest pleasures; bringing people together was simply who she was.

She is survived by her two sons (Matthew & Shaheem), their wives (Randi & Jeray), and her four granddaughters (Isabella, Kayla, Kennedy, and Kassidy) who were the light of her life. She will forever be cherished by her three sisters (Gladys, Geralmaine, and Laura), her brother-in-law (Joseph), and countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, former students, and sisters in service. She was preceded in death by her brother (John).

Her life was a testament to selfless service, quiet strength, and unconditional love. Though she has transitioned from this world, her impact lives on in every life she touched and every heart she nurtured."

Thank you!
