GLORIA WILLIAMS was born to the late Elizabeth Leiper on April 23, 1940 in Richmond,
Virginia. She was educated in both Richmond and Philadelphia school systems, graduating from Jameson Bible School in 1994.
The eldest of four children, Gloria was saved at the age of ten at Second Baptist Church in
Richmond, Virginia.
She was always a quiet person and loved serving others. She devoted much of her time as a
youth in the Girl Scouts, Junior Missionary, Junior Choir, and the Baptist Training Union. She
loved helping others and doing for those in need. All you had to do was ask her and she was
there.
Her family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the 50’s where Gloria finished schooling and a year of college. She met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Williams. From this union, one son, Curtis Anthony Williams was born.
God led her to Holy Temple in 1973 where she received the Holy Ghost during one Saturday
morning prayers under Sister Pope. Quietly she grew in the Lord. Early in her walk, she was a
member of the CAF and choir and loved helping senior citizens. She later started having prayer over the phone with two persons and the prayer warriors grew. Day and night, she called people, who were in need, to pray or just talk to them. She began attending prayer service more and formed a group of women who visited the nursing homes, Children’s Heart Hospital, and hosted Christmas dinners for senior citizens.
Gloria was a member of various organizations in Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. She
served as President of Evangelist Missionaries, Prayer Leader for 10 a.m. Prayer, Vice President of the Senior Citizens Fellowship, Volunteered with Camp COGIC, Sunday School Teacher, Priscilla Sisters, Baptism Committee, as well as served as a member of the Host & Hostess Committee and the CAF.
After retiring from the Philadelphia Naval Warfare Center in 2002, she continued to serve
others. She cared for her ill mother, and later her husband. She marched on as a Soldier in the Lord’s Army, serving in whatever way she could. Gloria felt the Lord gave her this scripture, Isaiah 61:1.
Her loving husband, Kenneth Williams, precedes Gloria in death, as well as her mother,
Elizabeth Leiper, and sister, Carolyn Johnson (Maurice).
She is survived by: her loving, son Curtis (Fatima); wonderful grandsons, Basil Williams
(Safilah) and Khalil Williams (Kevona); granddaughter, Lynda; one sister, Barbara Alston; one
brother, Ernest Daniels (Eunice); a devoted cousin whom she affectionately called sister-cousin, Brenda Spain; brothers-in-law, Herbert Bracy (Marian) and Jason Bracy (Lillian); great-
grandchildren; a devoted friend, Cecelia Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
