Kevin “Pop” Browning Sr. was the 4 th child born to David Browning and the late Ida Louise (Byrd) Browning, on October 8, 1960 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Raised in West Philadelphia, Kevin received his formal education in the Philadelphia School District. Kevin accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bible Way Baptist Church. During his high school years, Kevin played football for a short period of time until he decided that he didn’t have time for games.
At an early age, Kevin decided that he wanted to work and put all of his focus and attention into that. He was introduced to a whole new world where Kevin began his career as a longshoreman at the Waterfront, which spanned over 40 years.
In 1978, Kevin met his soul mate and the love of his life, Renee and were married on September 22, 1985. They were blessed to have a life of happiness and beautiful times together. From this union of love, 3 children were born, Kevin, Jr., Keith and Sherina. A strong family foundation was built, filled with love and great memories. After reflecting on his life, Kevin decided to rededicate his life to Christ in 1997 in his childhood home church of Bible Way Baptist Church. He was an active member of the church, serving as a Trustee and an Usher. He would share his love for the Lord with anyone that would listen, wherever he went especially during his many shopping trips to the market and Walmart.
One of the most important things to Kevin was his family. His most enjoyable times were spent talking and laughing with his family. He loved to have seafood feasts, listening to good music was his favorite pass time… playing scratch-off lottery tickets. Kevin was an honorable, well-respected man who would give his family the shirt off his back if they needed it. With his words of wisdom, a witty comment and his infectious smile, Kevin was known and loved by all who he encountered during his journey and will be missed immensely.
On the morning of Wednesday, April 7, 2021, Kevin departed this life and entered into God’s kingdom to his final resting place. Preceding him in death: his mother, Ida Louise (Bryd) Browning; and a brother, David Browning Jr. Kevin Browning Sr. leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of over 36 years, Renee; his two sons Kevin Jr. (daughter-in-love Chandra) and Keith (daughter-in- love Shawanda); his daughter Sherina; seven grandchildren; Samir, Faheem, Fharelle, Kennedy, Kevin III, Kiley and Keith Jr.; his father David Browning; two sisters Ava Browning and Traci Browning, two brothers Wayne (Tanya) Browning and Keith Browning; 3 god-children; Samriah Canale, Shakira Johnson and Tina Watson; two special nephews Deon Browning (who was more like a brother) and Eugene Walker III; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
